Diagnosis
Impaired gas exchange related to alveolar destruction and air trapping.
Goals
Patient will maintain adequate oxygenation as evidenced by normal respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. Patient will demonstrate effective breathing techniques and adherence to prescribed medication regimen.
Interventions
Administer prescribed bronchodilators and corticosteroids. Educate patient on pursed-lip breathing and diaphragmatic breathing techniques. Encourage patient to avoid respiratory irritants such as smoke and pollutants. Monitor respiratory status and oxygen saturation regularly.
Rationale
These interventions help improve gas exchange, reduce symptoms, and prevent complications associated with emphysema.
Evaluation
Patient's respiratory status, oxygenation, and adherence to treatment will be monitored to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
